Details
A reading light that comes to you, instead of the other way round. It reaches over a chair, a bed or a desk, and the light lands on the page rather than the ceiling. Nothing else in the room has to move.
Two heads: a rounded cylinder, or a dome
- Model A, cylinder head — a rounded cylinder shade on a slim rectangular backplate.
- Model B, dome head — a dome shade, lined pale inside, on a round backplate.
- One arm on both — two parallel bars run from the plate to a barrel joint at the outer end.
- Inline switch — a switch on the cord, so you never reach up to the shade in the dark.
A knuckle behind the head, and a black colourway that shifts by model
The shade turns on a knuckle of its own, so you angle the beam without moving the arm. In Gold, shade, arm and plate carry one finish. In Black & Gold they part company. The cylinder model keeps a black arm with gold collars at the neck and elbow. The dome model sets a black shade against an all-gold arm and plate.
Fit and placement
This is a plug-in fixture: fix the backplate, run the cord to a socket, and you are done. Pick the plug that matches your sockets at checkout; the options are listed below. The arm turns a full circle on its plate, so it suits the left of a bed or the right.

The dome model keeps the shorter reach, which suits a narrow strip of wall beside a bed. The cylinder model reaches further, which earns its place beside an armchair. Both reaches are in the specifications.
Where does the cord come out?
At the bottom of the backplate, dropping straight down the wall. Mount the plate above the socket you mean to use, and the run stays tidy. The cord length is in the specifications.
How high should I mount it beside a bed?
Set the plate so the head sits just above your shoulder when you sit up to read. From there the arm drops the beam onto the page and keeps the bulb out of your eyeline.
