Ten conical shades, each one cut from natural alabaster, sit around a single ring of gold-finished steel 101.5 cm (40″) across, set alternately high and low so the rim reads as a slow wave rather than a flat circle. Stone this thin turns a bulb into a glow — the light arrives warm and grainy, with the veining legible inside it.
