Some lamps only light a page. This one settles a whole corner. You read it as a shape first — a low dome slung under a thin metal arc — and only then as a lamp. It earns its place with the light off.

A dome hung from an arched bracket

• Domed shade — Broad and shallow, wider across than the base it stands on.
• Arched bracket — A slim tube springs from the outer end of the arm, crosses the dome and meets it at the crown.
• Cantilevered arm — A horizontal arm reaches out from the stem to carry that arch, so the shade hangs instead of sitting on top.
• Turned base — A solid disc, stepped in fine concentric rings, with a plain square edge.

The body is metal from base to crown. Where the arm meets the stem, a short sleeve caps the tube, with the seam showing just below it. At the other end there is no sleeve at all. The rod runs straight into the base, and the turned rings step up to meet it. Nothing is disguised, and nothing is added.

Fit and placement

There is nothing to install: no electrician, no drilling, no bracket to line up. Set it down and switch it on. Give it a little clear space. The rim reaches past the base on both sides, so anything tucked underneath will catch it.

Where does the light land?
On the surface below, not across the room. The dome is solid over the top, so the light leaves through the mouth and falls downward. Lit, it reads as one soft disc.

Do the four finishes differ in anything but colour?
No. The dome, the arch, the arm and the turned base are the same on all four. Only the finish changes.

How do you clean it?
A dry, soft cloth over the dome. Work a corner into the rings on the base, where dust settles. Leave abrasives and solvents alone.
