Some ceiling lights only light a room. This one gives a child something to look up at. A white globe glows against the ceiling, and a small bear hangs from it on a slim rod. It belongs in a nursery or a playroom.

A sculpted bear hanging from the globe on a rigid rod

  • A rod, not a cord — straight, with a moulded collar under the globe and a rounded knob the bear takes hold of.
  • The order, top to bottom — a slim disc at the ceiling, the globe directly beneath it, then the rod, then the bear.
  • A different pose per design — each bear takes the knob its own way, some with both forepaws, some with one.
  • An even glow — the sphere lights across its whole surface, not as one bright point.

The bear and the globe share one white

The fixture is moulded in white acrylic, and the bear carries the same white as the globe above it. That keeps it reading as one object, not a lamp with an ornament stuck on. Look closely and the modelling is real — the set of the head, the shoulder, the weight in the hind legs. It is the detail children's lighting usually skips.

Fit and placement

The fixture wires into the ceiling point above it. Have a qualified electrician make the connection. Think about where the bear will hang, clear of a cot side or a top bunk and out of reach of small hands.
