A wall light that reads as sculpture, on or off. Switch it on and the shade stops being an object and becomes the light. It glows rather than glares. That is what most wall lighting gets wrong — brightness without warmth.

A half-dome shade that finishes in a straight rim

  • Warm brown veining — soft brown veining drifts across the pale surface and stays visible with the light off.
  • A collar at the crown — a small metal fitting sits at the top of the dome, the one break in the curve.
  • Twin turned rods — two rods reach down below the shade, turned in a repeating pattern of fine rings and rounded beads.
  • Round backplate — a single round plate sits behind the rods, flat to the wall and mostly hidden under the shade.

One tone across every metal part

The plate, the rods and the collar all carry the same tone, so the metalwork reads as one piece rather than assembled hardware. The rods stand proud of the wall, far enough to cast their own thin shadows. Lit, the dome prints an even halo on the plaster, as much above the shade as below it.

Fit and placement

The round plate is the only part that meets the wall, and it sits flat. The shade carries out over it no further than the depth given in the specifications. Hang it a little above eye level, where the lit dome stays in view.
