A pendant that reads like one long ribbon caught mid-turn. Wide bands cross the sphere on the diagonal, so its outline shifts as you walk around it. Where two bands part the light comes through bright and direct; through the fibre it stays soft. One fixture, two kinds of light.

Wide bands of cocoon fibre, wound on the diagonal

  • Overlapping turns — each band laps over the one beneath it, and the shadow line along that overlap gives the sphere its depth.
  • Honest seams — where one band ends against the next, the join shows as a fine line across the surface.
  • Scalloped rim — the band edges rise into soft points instead of closing flush, leaving the outline gently uneven.
  • An opening on one face — the bands part into a lens-shaped gap, and lit, that gap burns brighter than the fibre around it.

Wound by hand, seam by seam

Up close the fibre carries a fine, web-like grain you only catch when light rakes across it. Step back and it disappears; only the turn of the bands is left. Seen end-on they flatten into facets. The same shade reads as a soft globe from one side of a room and a faceted disc from the other. The seams are left where they fall rather than dressed out of sight.

Fit and placement

Have a qualified electrician install it, working from the wiring and control lines in the specifications. Decide the drop on the day, to the cable length listed below. One shade holds a dining table or a bedside; two at staggered heights carry a longer table.
