The overhead light is either on or off, and neither one suits the end of an evening. This is the lamp for the hour in between. It puts a low, soft glow at table height, close to where you are sitting. Then it moves with you to the next room.

The shade is one deep cone, set tip-down

  • Inverted cone — the shade drops from a wide rim to a point where it meets the column, on steep unbroken walls.
  • Flat top cap — a disc lies across the top of the cone and overhangs its rim by a fraction.
  • One touch sensor — a standby symbol pressed into the front of the column, three-quarters of the way down, sets the light mode and the brightness.
  • Stepped column — a short collar carries the shade, a fine step marks where the tapered body starts, and a slim ring finishes the foot.

Light comes off the outside of the cone

The whole outer wall of the cone lights up. So the glow travels outward at table height, over whatever sits beside it and up the wall behind. The cap on top stays dark, so nothing rises off the head. Matte mouldings keep the body free of highlights, so the cone is the only part that reads as lit.

Fit and placement

There is no wiring, and nothing to plug in while it runs. Charge it, then set it down where you are sitting. It stands on its own foot and moves when you do.
