This is the lamp that solves it — a slim electroplated column carrying a flat disc head, standing on a small weighted cylinder. Touch the disc and it comes on; hold it and the brightness slides from candle-low to full; tap again for a warmer or cooler white. A single charge covers several long evenings, and the whole thing is light enough to carry from a dining table to a balcony rail without a second thought.

Light that stays out of eyes
