Most ceiling lights are a compromise you stop noticing. This one is the opposite — a piece of shaped glass you hang on purpose, in the colour that suits the room you already have. It gives a room its centre of gravity, and a hallway a reason to look up.

A stepped glass shade on a rigid rod

  • Lobed body — the glass steps out from a narrow shoulder into a wide, softly ribbed middle, then draws back in at the base.
  • Cast ceiling rose — a round canopy with a raised leaf pattern worked into the metal.
  • Small base cap — a cast cap and ball finish the underside of the shade.
  • Rigid rod — a straight rod, not a cord or a chain, so the shade hangs square instead of turning.

Nine glass colours, one silhouette

The shape does not change with the colour. What changes is what the glass does with the light. The glass is textured, so it softens the bulb rather than letting it glare. In clear glass the bulb stays on show, filament and all. The metalwork holds one finish, ceiling rose to base cap.

Fit and placement

The canopy closes flat against the ceiling, and the shade hangs beneath it. The rod comes in three pieces, so you build the drop your ceiling needs instead of accepting a fixed one. The lengths are in the specifications.

Where does the bulb sit inside the shade?
The holder drops from the top of the shade, so the bulb sits in the widest part of the glass, not down in the base.

Does the colour still read with the light off?
Yes. It reads as a coloured shade by daylight, and as a coloured light in the evening.

Will it suit a kitchen island or a dining table?
Both. The shade is wide and low-slung, so it lights the surface below without blocking the view across it.
