A pendant that earns a look before it is switched on. Curved fabric lobes swell out, then draw back to soft points. Dark braid follows every seam. Switched on, it gives a room something gentler than a plain glass shade.

A lantern of white fabric on a beaded gold rod

  • Shade — white fabric lobes, each seam and rim finished with a dark braided trim rather than a plain stitched edge.
  • Feather trim — a dense band of white feathers rings the base of the shade and hides the lower opening.
  • Wood beading — a stack of turned wood beads sits on the rod above the shade, with a matching bead hung below as a finial.
  • Stem — a slim gold-finished rod runs from a domed ceiling canopy down to the shade.

Fabric and braid, not moulded glass

The shade is fabric, so the light passes through it and warms rather than sharpens. The cloth is fine enough to show its texture once the bulb is on. The braid along every seam is the detail most fabric shades leave out.
