Details
Pressed glass was invented to make ornament affordable, and the moulds that did it are the reason a shade like this still looks handmade.
The glass here is formed with deep petal ribs running from the rim to the neck, so the surface is never flat and never catches the light the same way twice around its circumference. Above it sits a brass cone — a plain, tapered fitting that gives the ribbed glass something quiet to hang from. Four shapes are offered, differing in how wide and how deep the shade is. The socket takes a standard lamp.

Moulded petal ribs under a plain brass cone
- Ribs from rim to neck: the pressed profile means the glass reads differently at every angle around it
- Plain brass cone: a quiet tapered fitting, so the ornament stays in the glass
- Four shapes: wider and shallower, or narrower and deeper — the same glass in different proportions
- Your own bulb: a standard socket, so brightness and warmth remain your call
Ribbed glass wants a clear lamp
The pressed profile only shows when a point source is behind it. Frosted glass in a frosted shade cancels itself out; a clear bulb lights every rib separately.
Shape changes where it belongs
The wider shapes throw light outward and suit a table. The deeper ones aim it down and suit a counter or a hallway where the spill matters less.
Brass ages, glass does not
The cone will darken slightly over years while the shade stays exactly as it is. That contrast is normal and generally improves the fitting.

Frequently asked questions
Which bulb shows the ribbing?
A clear one. Frosted lamps soften the profile and lose most of the effect.
What is the difference between the shapes?
Width and depth. The wider shades spread light outward; the deeper ones aim it down.
Does a bulb come with it?
No. It takes a standard lamp so you can choose the brightness and warmth.
