A stepped collar where the stem meets the shade

The stem does not meet the shade directly. It steps out into a short tapered collar, and that collar seats on a flat disc resting on the shade's crown. Three shapes, stacked and left visible at the top of an otherwise plain curve.

A round canopy sits flush to the ceiling, and a straight stem carries the shade down to the height listed in the specifications. The stem is rigid rather than a cord, so the shade holds level and stays put.

What does it look like with the light off?
The globe reads as a plain matte white sphere with no glow at all. What you see is the metalwork — an object on a stem rather than a light fitting.

Does the globe change with the finish?
No — the same opal sphere sits under all four. Only the contrast changes: against the Black shade it reads as a bright point on a dark ground, and against the lighter finishes it sits closer in tone.

How deep is the shade's curve?
Gentle, right across the width — closer to a plate than a bowl. That is why it reads low and wide overhead rather than as a hanging dome.
