A pendant decides the mood of a room before the furniture does. This one does it with texture. The shade is knitted in a fine vertical rib, so the light leaves it in soft lines rather than one flat sheet. Hang it low and the room gathers under it.

White knit worked in a fine vertical rib

  • A rust and grey pinstripe — fine coloured threads run down the white knit, and you only pick them out close to the shade.
  • Three silhouettes — a wide flattened dome, a full round globe, or a tall tapered lantern.
  • An open, ringed underside — the fabric stops at a smooth white ring, with a pale diffuser set back inside it.
  • A gathered crown — every rib runs up to a small opening at the top, where the cord enters the shade.

Fabric over an aluminium ring

The shade is a real textile, not a moulded shell. Each rib keeps its line the whole way round the curve, and the knit stays taut at the widest point. The ring at the base gives a soft shade a level edge.

Fit and placement

Have a qualified electrician make the connection at the ceiling. A round white canopy covers the fixing. The cable adjusts, so you can set the shade low over a table or higher in a corner.
