A wide, softly lobed lantern that reads as one calm shape overhead. The silk filters the bulb's light into an even glow rather than one hard point. Hang it where people gather and it settles the room instead of competing with it.

A silk shade gathered to a point underneath

  • Broad lobes — the shade divides into wide vertical panels that swell out at the middle.
  • Fine edge lines — a single fine line follows each panel edge, on show whether the light is on or off.
  • Gathered underside — the panels draw together into a small point beneath the shade.
  • Flattened profile — it is far wider than it is tall, so it sits low without crowding the room.

A fibrous silk surface, not a sheen

Up close the silk shows a soft, fibrous grain, not a flat shiny face. Lit, that grain stays visible through the panels. Unlit, the shade settles into a matte surface with no shine to it.

Fit and placement

Have a qualified electrician wire it in at the ceiling point. Plan the position around its width rather than its height. Over a dining table, centre it and keep sightlines across the table clear.
