One deep dome of opal glass, hung from three slim polished arms. It settles a room rather than decorating it. The glass reads ivory rather than stark white, so it warms against oak and pale plaster. Over a dining table it is one calm shape, and nothing to look past.

A fitting finished above the shade as well as below

• A polished collar band — A narrow silver-toned band wraps the top of the dome and carries three small brackets.
• Three jointed arms — Each arm is a run of long links that ends in a hook, and the hooks close onto those brackets.
• A glossy white drum — A short drum caps the collar, and the arms rise past it to meet at a single point above the shade.

One piece of glass, not a stack

The shade is a single dome. It curves from under the collar out to a rolled edge, with no seam and no joint anywhere along the wall. The surface is glossy rather than matt, so the curve carries a soft highlight and the ivory deepens towards the rim.

Fit and placement

Hang the dome centred over the table, so the rim clears the sightline across the top. The three hooks let you take the glass down again for a wash without touching the flex. Have an electrician make the connection.

What is the disc set under the shade?
A flat pale disc that closes the mouth of the dome. It sits a little above the rim, with a thin shadow gap running right round between its edge and the glass.

Do the arms hold the lamp, or the cable?
The arms. All three carry the weight down onto the collar brackets. The flex drops through the centre and does nothing structural.

Does it suit a round table?
It does. The dome is round and the three arms sit evenly around the collar, so there is no front or back to line up when you hang it.
