A ribbed oval shade on three splayed wire legs

  • Barrel silhouette — the shade tapers at both ends and bulges gently through the middle.
  • Ribbed paper skin — fine horizontal ribs sit under one continuous sheet of rice paper, which swells a little between each rib.
  • Single vertical seam — one glued seam runs the height of the shade, where the paper closes on itself.
  • Splayed wire base — three slender black legs angle out from under the shade and hold it clear of the floor.

Bonded by hand, paper over ribs

The shade is built by hand, rice paper bonded with glue over the ribbing rather than moulded in one piece. The skin carries fine creases across its surface, clearest in daylight. Lit, the paper spreads a warm light and the bulb reads as a brighter core near the middle.

Will there be glue marks on the shade?
You may see faint traces of glue along the edge of the shade. The paper is bonded by hand, so this is normal and not a fault.

Can I see the frame through the paper?
Yes. With the lamp on, the pale ribs and the vertical strings inside the shade show as soft lines through the skin.

Where does it work best?
In a corner, beside a low chair, or at the end of a bed — anywhere the glow can spread across a wall.
