A paper lantern on four splayed wire legs, standing clear of whatever it sits on. The the's panels are creased rather than smooth, so the surface never reads as flat. A black band cuts straight across the middle. It is sculpture first and lamp second, and it does both jobs.

  • Creased paper panels — the off-white paper crumples across every face, and the faces sit at slightly different tones, white to beige.
  • Ribbed black band — a black band wraps the shade's middle in horizontal ribs, splitting the pale surface into an upper and a lower half.
  • Splayed wire legs — four slender black legs angle outward from the shade and land on small ball feet.
  • Open crown — four spokes reach from a black centre hub to small rings at the rim, leaving the top of the shade open.

Every panel takes the light differently

Switch it on and the two halves separate. The paper above the band and the paper below it take the light at different strengths, and the creases show as faint lines. The band stays dark throughout — it is the one opaque element, and it gives the eye a line to rest on. Unlit in daylight, the lamp keeps its shape and its presence.

Fit and placement
