Look up, and this one does something a bare bulb never could: it turns hard light into a warm, honeyed pool. The shade is a stack of printed panels, each lapping the next. Switch it off and the print reads dark and graphic against the ceiling.

Panels that lap over one another, hems hanging free

  • Layered panels — each printed panel laps over the one beside it, so the silhouette steps in and out all the way round.
  • A loose scalloped hem — the lower edges hang free below the widest point of the shade, in a soft, uneven wave.
  • Fine botanical print — branches, leaves and open blossoms drawn in thin line across the beige ground.
  • Walnut ball finial — a dark red-brown sphere hangs on a slim brass-toned stem below the open centre.

Brass at the ceiling, charcoal at the crown

The canopy at the ceiling is a small polished dome in warm yellow brass — a different tone from the walnut ball below. Seen from above, the panels gather under a flat charcoal-grey cap. Underneath, they open onto a pale disc ringed in brass, the brightest part once the light is on.

Fit and placement

Have an electrician make the connection, or fit it yourself if you are comfortable with basic wiring. One shade suits a bedside table, a reading chair or a window seat. Above a long dining table, two in a row carry the length better than one.

Frequently asked questions

Will I see the lamp through the shade?
A little. The panels are light enough that the lamp reads as bright points behind the fabric, and the printed branches pale to a fine outline. Switched off, the print reads dark and crisp again.

Why do the lower edges hang in a wave?
The hems are left free. Each panel laps over the one beside it, and its lower edge hangs loose. That is what gives the shade its soft, scalloped outline.

Which of the two sizes should I take?
Take the larger over a dining table or a kitchen island, where a small shade gets lost. The smaller one suits a bedside, a hallway or a window seat.
