A flush ceiling light usually means a plain disc, because there is nowhere for a fitting to go once it is pressed against the plaster.
This one finds room by drawing a second circle. An open metal ring sits offset around a lit disc, so from below there are two overlapping curves rather than one flat plate — geometry instead of a lid. The disc gives an even, diffused wash across the whole room, and the ring reads as a drawn line on the ceiling whether the light is on or off. Gold, black or white, in two diameters.
