Some corners need an object, not only a light. This one stacks rounded lobes up to a broad glossy dome, and holds the corner in daylight as much as after dark. Nothing here is trying to disappear. Sculpture that happens to switch on.

A glossy dome above a column of stacked, rounded lobes

  • Stacked column — The body swells and pinches through a run of rounded lobes, then tapers away at the bottom.
  • Mushroom dome — A broad dome caps the column on a short neck, finished with a small ball finial at the crown.
  • Light from underneath — The dome is open beneath, so the glow drops onto the floor and washes the wall behind.
  • Round foot — The stack lands on a shallow domed foot, low and flat to the floor.

A gloss that keeps the curves reading

The lobes do all the work, so the finish has to hold a clean highlight along each one. It does — a bright band tracks down the stack and picks out the swell of every lobe. In matte, the shape would flatten out.

Fit and placement

A cord runs out from under the foot, so the lamp plugs in where it stands. Nothing needs wiring. Give it a corner, a sofa end or a bedside — anywhere you would rather have a low pool of light than the ceiling fitting. Leave it a clear patch of floor: the foot sits wider than the stack.

Which light colour will I get?

Does any light come through the top of the dome?
No. The dome is solid over the crown. Light leaves only from the open rim underneath — a pool on the floor, a wash on the wall behind.

Is the shade the same colour as the column?
Yes. Whichever colourway you choose, the dome, the column and the round foot all arrive in that one colour and gloss.
