The architect lamp earned its shape in drawing offices, where the light had to reach across a board and then get out of the way.

This is that arm with an aluminium light bar on the end. Two jointed sections screw-clamp to the back of the desk and fold flat against the wall when you are done. The bar is long enough to light a keyboard and a notebook at once instead of burning a circle into the middle of the desk, and the metal body carries the heat away so the diodes hold their colour. A small inline controller sets three tones and ten levels.

Behind the screen, not beside it

Clamped at the back of the desk the arm reaches over a monitor and drops light in front of it. That removes the reflection you get from a lamp standing to one side.

The controller remembers the tone and level you were last on, so a lamp shared between drawing, reading and video calls does not need resetting every time.

A long lead

The USB cable runs a metre and a half, which is what lets a desk-back clamp still reach a wall adaptor or a laptop.
