Hallways are almost always lit wrongly, because a ceiling fitting in a corridor flattens everything under it.
A tall vertical fitting does the opposite. This one is a slim column, a little over forty centimetres high and barely ten deep, mounted flat to the wall so the light runs up and down its own length. What you get is a stripe of brightness rather than a pool, which is what makes a narrow space read as taller than it is. Gold warms the wall it sits on; black holds a hard silhouette against pale plaster.

Spacing decides the effect
Evenly spaced along a run they become a rhythm. Placed singly beside a door they mark the entrance. Both work — but a single one in the middle of a long wall does neither.
Gold needs warm light
The metallic finish only reads as gold under the 3000 K source. Cool white turns it toward brass-grey, which is worth knowing before choosing both.
