• A cone at the foot — The wood finishes in a metal cone, flaring out wider than the column above.

A plain, straight-grained column

Fine straight lines run vertically down the column, and the light from the cap falls across them and picks each one out. The cut is plain and the lines stay parallel the whole way down. Seen from the side, the cap sits low and flat above them, a plate with a shallow rim rather than a shade. The wood is also the part your hand meets when you move the lamp.
