Some lights only light a room. This one gives it a shape to sit under. Overlapping shells curve out from a turned collar, then pinch back in at the base. Not one straight edge in the whole shade.

  • A turned collar — the shells fix under the rim of a round top plate, the collar rising from its centre.
  • Free-edged shells — the panels overlap rather than meet, each outer edge traced by a fine dark line.
  • A lit underside — a round diffuser disc closes the base, so light falls straight down as well as out.
  • A ball at the base — a slim rod continues below the disc to a turned wood ball.

The shells turn translucent once the lamp is on

Unlit, the shade holds one flat, even colour. Lit, each shell brightens from within, and the overlaps show as soft darker curves where one crosses another. The centre shell reads brightest, the outer ones stay gentle, and the form keeps its depth. Look up into it: the top plate is plain grey.

Fit and placement

This pendant is hardwired, so have a qualified electrician fit it. The domed canopy covers the ceiling outlet and stands slightly proud of it, one slim cord dropping to the shade. In our photographs it hangs over a round dining table, and in the open floor of a bedroom.

Is the wood ball at the base a switch?
No — it finishes the drop below the shade. The light runs from an ordinary wall switch.

Can I get a longer cord for a high ceiling?
Yes. The cord adjusts within the drop listed in the specifications, and can be made longer — ask before you order.

Can it go in a bathroom or a covered porch?
No. Keep it to dry indoor rooms, as the IP rating in the specifications sets out.
