Soft paper lobes, stacked into one glowing shape. A bare bulb over a table is hard to sit under, and this washi shade solves that quietly. Lit, it hands back a warm, low light. Off, it reads as a white paper sculpture.

Three paper lobes stacked into one shade

  • Stepped profile — each lobe sits wider than the one above it, so the shade steps outward towards its base.
  • Ribbed paper surface — close horizontal ribbing runs round every lobe and catches the light in fine lines.
  • Two faces — off, the paper reads a flat ivory white; switched on, it warms to golden-cream.
  • Slim black cord — the cord drops to a small black fitting at the top of the shade, and nothing else breaks the outline.

Hand-bonded washi from mulberry bark

Washi is made from the inner bark of the mulberry tree, the paper behind traditional shoji screens. Each shade is bonded by hand, so no two come out identical. Fine creases run through the paper across every lobe, and you see them best with the light off.

Frequently asked questions

Why are there glue traces along the edge of the shade?
The shade is hand-bonded from washi paper and glue, so minor traces along the edge of the lampshade can show. That is a mark of the process, not a fault.

Which bulb suits this shade best?
A warm-white LED at 2700–3000 K is the one to fit. A clear filament bulb works well too, and its shape stays subtly visible through the paper.

Does it glow evenly all over?
Not quite. The light gathers at the neck under the top lobe, so the middle lobe reads brightest and the lower one softer. The base is open, so light also falls straight down.
