An oval of warm wood grain holds one clean line of light down its centre. It reads as wall art first and fixture second. Switch it on and the glow spills onto the wall behind it, soft and even. Quiet, sculptural, never the loudest thing in the room.

A black rod that becomes a line of light

  • Elongated oval face — a gently convex panel, widest through the middle and drawn to a point at each end.
  • One unbroken vertical line — the black rod above and below the oval carries on as the lit strip across its centre.
  • Light that washes the face — the strip stands proud of the panel, so the glow spreads either side of it.
  • Three lengths of one shape — the oval keeps its width as it grows taller, so the longer sizes read slimmer.

A face that changes when you switch it on

Unlit, the panel is a solid timber-toned oval with a pale seam down the middle. Lit, that seam turns white and the surface either side lifts out of shadow. The oval also stands off the wall, so a soft halo forms behind it. That halo is the detail most makers leave out.

Fit and placement

Hang it vertically, in line with the light strip running the length of the face. The shortest size suits a bedside or a narrow hallway wall. The two longer ones hold a taller wall — beside a fireplace, in a panelled dining room, or above a banquette. Leave the oval room to stand proud of the plaster.
