Some ceiling lights vanish into the plaster. This one does not. Raffia has a texture that reads warm from across the room, and the tailoring here stops it reading rustic. Hang it low over a table and it becomes the thing your eye goes to.
A raffia shade tiered with cream fabric and bound in black
- Raffia weave — the grass is laid in a fine cross-hatch, so every strand shows when the light sits behind it.
- Black bound edges — a narrow black trim runs round the top rim, the base, and each seam where the tiers meet.
- Cream fabric tiers — on most shades a smooth cream tier meets the raffia, so one silhouette carries two textures.
- Black cord and fitting — the drop cord and the ceiling fitting are black, so the hardware stays quiet against the weave.
Handwoven, and open enough to see the light through
An open weave does what a solid shade cannot: switch the bulb on and the grass turns amber, lit from within. The cream tiers stay quieter and glow evenly. The base is open, so the strongest light falls on the table rather than the ceiling.
Four shapes, one build
A, B, C and D vary the profile and how much of the shade is raffia — one is raffia from rim to base. Sizes for each are in the specifications.
Fit and placement
Fitting is a ceiling job, so have a licensed electrician make the connection. It suits a dining table, a breakfast nook, a bedside or an entryway.
