LED Reading Panel for Books in Bed, Flat Page Light

Every clip-on book light has the same flaw — it lights a bright patch and leaves the rest of the page in shadow, and it lights the room while it is at it.

This one lies flat on the paper instead. A thin clear panel is edge-lit along its spine by a slim black bar, and the whole sheet glows evenly across the page beneath it. You read through it. Turn a page, slide the panel over, keep going. Because the light is held between the panel and the paper, almost none of it escapes upward, so the person next to you stays asleep. Closed inside the book it works as the bookmark.

An edge-lit panel that lies on the page you are reading

• Even across the page: the light is carried through the panel, so there is no bright spot and no shadowed corner
• Almost nothing escapes upward: the glow is trapped between the sheet and the paper — a dark room stays dark
• Slides, does not clip: nothing grips the cover, so paperbacks, hardbacks and magazines all work
• Doubles as a bookmark: it is thin enough to close the book on, which is where it lives between chapters

Light the page, not the room

A ceiling lamp lights everything and a clip lamp lights a circle. Neither is what a reader wants at one in the morning next to someone who is asleep.

Gentle at close range

The panel gives a soft, low level rather than a task beam, so the contrast between the lit page and the dark room stays comfortable over a long stretch.

Flat enough to travel

It packs like a postcard. In a bag, a bedside drawer or a coat pocket it takes no more room than the book it belongs to.

Frequently asked questions

Does it fit any book?
It lies on the page rather than clipping to a cover, so paperbacks, hardbacks and magazines all work.

Will it wake the person next to me?
Very little light escapes upward — most of it is held between the panel and the paper.

Can I read through it?
Yes. The panel is clear, and the text underneath stays sharp through it.
