A square well cut into the underside

• The cap steps back — the wood top is narrower than the stone, so the two meet in a step, not a flush line.
• Nothing hangs down — the block sits tight against the ceiling, with no rod, chain or cord in the line.

The stone is cut so its layers run level across the faces. Its pores are left open rather than filled, which is what gives the surface depth. Lit, the recess catches the glow first, and the stone itself reads warm rather than luminous.

What is the difference between the two caps?
Walnut is the darker of the two and reads as a distinct band above the stone. Natural wood is paler and closer to the stone, so the block reads more of a piece.
