A cast branch reaches out from a small round backplate, bark ridges and all, finished in warm brass, and where a bud would sit there is a globe of natural alabaster instead. Lit, the stone glows a soft honey-white and the branch throws a fine shadow line across the wall; unlit, it reads as wall sculpture. It measures 30 cm (11.8″) across and 20 cm (7.9″) high, with a ∅15 cm (5.9″) globe — compact enough for a pair either side of a bed, substantial enough to carry a hallway on its own.

What makes it work

  • Cast twig-form arm — the branchlets and bark texture are cast into the metal, so the silhouette against a plain wall is the whole point of the piece.
  • Natural alabaster globe — stone rather than glass, which is why the light leaves it warm and softly clouded instead of hard-edged, with veining unique to your piece.
  • Standard G9 socket — takes any G9 bulb from a hardware shop, so the brightness and the warmth are your call. The bulb is not included.

An indoor fitting

This sconce is rated IP20, which carries no protection against water at all. Keep it to dry rooms — a hallway, a bedroom, a stairwell, a living room — and away from bathrooms, covered porches and anywhere it would meet spray or steam.

Choosing the bulb

Whatever G9 you fit sets the character of the light. Around 2700 K reads warm and close to candlelight against the stone; 3000–4000 K is brighter and cleaner. There is no driver inside the fixture, so a dimmable G9 on a dimmer rated for LED loads gives you full level control.

Fitting it

Behind the round backplate the fixture wires straight to your mains supply, so settle the height before the cable comes out of the wall — beside a bed, the centre of a sconce usually lands 150–160 cm (59–63″) off the floor. Have an electrician make the connection if you'd rather not touch the wiring, or fit it yourself if you're comfortable with basic household wiring — it's a straightforward job.
