A slab of natural alabaster, left raw and broken along its top edge rather than cut square, sits in a semicircular brass cradle against an oval brass backplate. Light passes through the stone instead of bouncing off it, so what reaches the room is warm, soft and slightly uneven, with the veining visible in the glow. At W18 x D13 x H44 cm (7.1″ x 5.1″ x 17.3″) it holds its own beside a bed, a mirror or a hallway console without asking for the space a pendant would.
