A globe of alabaster rests against a walnut-grained plate, held between two small dark-metal balls on a slim bar. Lit, the stone reads like a small moon set into the wood, warm and even rather than bright; unlit, it is a quiet cream disc with the grain running behind it. Take it round — ∅20 cm (7.9″) across — or oval, 12.5 cm (4.9″) wide and 27 cm (10.6″) tall. Either way it stands only 8 cm (3.1″) off the wall, so it clears a bedside table, a narrow hallway or the space beside a mirror without getting in the way.

Fitting it

The alabaster globe sits at the centre of the round version and low on the oval, so the oval throws its light further down the wall. Have an electrician make the connection if you'd rather not touch the wiring, or fit it yourself if you're comfortable with basic wall wiring — it's a straightforward job.
