The problem it solves

Most ceiling lights force a choice: enough light to eat by, or something nice to look at. A bare downlight flattens a table and puts a glare in everyone's eyes. A decorative fixture that looks good often gives you almost nothing to see by. Here the alabaster panels diffuse the LED across a wide surface, so the light arrives even and glare-free while the fixture itself is the thing people comment on.

Real stone, not a print

Each panel is cut from genuine alabaster. Hold one up to the light and you see the cloudy amber and grey veining running right through the thickness of it — because it is stone, not a pattern applied to a surface. That also means no two fixtures are identical. The panels you receive will carry their own veining, and yours will not match the photographs exactly. We think that is the point of it.

The frame

The panels sit on a blackened metal ring, each one held by a machined brass disc that reads as a deliberate detail rather than a fastener someone tried to hide. The ring hangs on fine steel cables from a matching black canopy, and the brass cable grips repeat the same warm metal at the ceiling. Black, brass and white stone — three materials, nothing else competing.

Three sizes

The 120 cm figure is the total drop from the ceiling to the bottom of the fixture, cables included. The cables shorten, so you can hang it higher than that — you cannot hang it lower without longer cable.

Warm or cool

Choose warm white for dining rooms, bedrooms and anywhere you sit in the evening; it flatters the amber in the stone. Choose cool white for a crisper, more contemporary read in a hallway, a kitchen or a room with a lot of grey and steel in it. The choice is made at checkout and is fixed in the fitting, so pick the one that matches how you use the room.

Fitting it

It mounts to a standard ceiling outlet, and the cables are cut and set to the drop you want on the day. Plenty of people fit this themselves; if wiring is not your idea of a good afternoon, any electrician will have it up quickly.

Good to know before you buy

Alabaster is stone, so this is a fixture with real weight to it. Check that your ceiling point is sound before you hang it — a hook that was fine for a paper shade is not the right anchor for this.

The LED is integrated, which means there is no bulb to change and also no bulb to swap if you later change your mind about warm versus cool. That decision is made once, at checkout.

Stone chips if you knock it. It is not fragile in normal use, but it is not something to hang where a door swings or where it will be brushed past.

Is the alabaster real stone?
Yes. The veining runs through the material rather than being printed on it, which is why every fixture looks slightly different.

Which size do I need over a dining table?
As a rough guide, take the width of your table and go about two-thirds of it. A 60 cm suits a small round table, 85 cm a six-seater, and 90 cm with five heads a long or wide table.

Can I hang it higher or lower?
Higher, yes — the cables shorten to whatever drop you want, up to 120 cm. Below 120 cm you would need longer cable.

Do I have to choose warm or cool?
Yes, at checkout. The LED is built in, so the light colour is set in the fitting rather than changed with a bulb.

Will my chandelier look like the photographs?
The frame and dimensions will match exactly. The stone veining will not — it is natural, so yours will be its own.

Is it heavy to install?
Heavier than a glass or metal pendant, since the shades are stone. Worth having a second pair of hands and a sound ceiling fixing.
