Some overhead light glares. This one glows. The rounded paper shade wraps the bulb in soft, even light, so a room feels lit rather than illuminated. Hang it over a dining table, a kitchen island or a stairwell for a full, warm glow with nowhere for glare to hide.

A domed shade that steps in at the base

  • Domed crown — the shade curves over at the top, then straightens into a lantern-shaped body.
  • Ribbed surface — fine horizontal ribs run unbroken over the dome and down the body.
  • Footed base — the shade steps inward at the bottom to a small disc, left open underneath.
  • Slim dark cord — the cord drops to a small dark fitting at the top of the dome.

Mulberry paper, stretched by hand

Each shade starts as bamboo ribs, bent into shape and lashed together, then mulberry paper is stretched over the frame and glued by hand. Because the work is done by hand, rib spacing and paper grain vary slightly between shades — part of the material, not a flaw.

Fit and placement

This pendant is hardwired to a standard ceiling junction box — have an electrician handle the install. The cord shortens during install, so plan the drop before anyone cuts it. Hang it so the base of the shade clears head height with margin. Keep the shade clear of curtains and other soft furnishings, at the clearance listed in the specifications.

Which size fits my ceiling?
The smaller shade suits a standard room, over a table or in an entryway. The larger wants a taller ceiling, and reads as a sculptural piece on its own.

Why LED only?
The shade is paper over bamboo. Incandescent and halogen bulbs run hot enough to scorch or ignite it, so fit the cool-running LED listed in the specifications.

Frosted bulb or clear filament?
A frosted bulb spreads the light evenly across the paper. A clear filament bulb shows a faint outline of itself through the shade, which some people prefer.
