Some walls need more than a picture on them. This one asks for a quiet architectural moment instead. Columns of pale marble rise between blades of dark metal, glowing softly from within. Switch it on, and a hallway or bedside wall stops feeling flat.

Three marble columns layered between blades of dark metal

  • Squared stone panels — each column is a clean rectangle, flat top and bottom, set into a narrow dark metal border.
  • A centre panel set forward — the middle column stands proud of the panels either side, so the front reads in layers rather than flat.
  • Blades that break the outline — the inner blades run longest, climbing above the stone and dropping below it, while the outer pair sit shorter.
  • Figuring that shows when lit — light crosses the marble and brings up cloudy grey markings, different on every column.

Metal that catches the light along its edges

The blades are plain flat plates, and the finish is dark and neutral rather than glossy. Look along an edge and it takes a thin line of light, which stops the frame reading as a black silhouette. The marble works the other way: it passes light through rather than throwing it back.

Fit and placement

It hangs upright, so it suits wall that runs tall rather than wide. A hallway, the side of a bed, a run of joinery, the plaster above a mantel. It holds its own against dark timber panelling as readily as it does on pale plaster.
