Unlit, it reads as a plain white stone disc on the wall — 20 cm (7.9″) across, faintly veined, held off a round brass canopy by a flat brass bar that crosses it horizontally. Switch it on and the disc becomes the light itself: a single candle bulb sits behind the stone and pushes through it, so the alabaster glows from within in a warm, uneven wash instead of throwing a beam. Nothing glares, because you never see the bulb. And at 8 cm (3.1″) deep, it barely leaves the wall.
What makes it work
-
Backlit natural stone — the bulb sits behind the disc, so the alabaster is the light source and its veining only shows once the fixture is on.
-
Solid brass bar and canopy — a warm metal that keeps its colour as it ages, and the reason the fixture reads as stone and metal rather than a moulded shade.
-
Standard candle socket — an E12 or E14 base, so the output and the warmth of the light are your choice rather than sealed into the fixture.
Where it fits
The footprint is 20 cm (7.9″) square and the body stands 8 cm (3.1″) off the plaster — projection is the figure that usually decides a sconce. That is shallow enough for a hallway you walk through, for the wall beside a headboard where a shoulder passes, and for a narrow stairwell. If you are mounting a pair either side of a bed or a mirror, give each one its own 20 cm (7.9″) of clear wall.
Worth knowing before you order
- The bulb is not included. The fitting takes one small candle-base bulb, E12 or E14 — both are standard candelabra sizes, stocked by any hardware shop.
- Dimming comes from the bulb, not the fixture. There is no integrated LED or driver here, so a dimmable candle bulb on a compatible dimmer circuit will dim; an ordinary bulb will not.
- It is hardwired — no plug, no cord. The fixture connects to a wired wall point.
- The IP20 rating carries no moisture protection at all. Keep it to dry indoor rooms, away from a shower, a bath or a steamy bathroom.
- Alabaster is cut from natural stone, so the veining and the exact tone of your disc will differ from the photographs. That variation is the material doing what it does.
Fitting it
One fixture, one wall point, and a round canopy that covers the connection. Have an electrician make the connection if you'd rather not touch the wiring, or fit it yourself if you're comfortable with basic household wiring — it's a straightforward job.

Frequently asked questions
Which bulb does it take, and is one included?
One small candle-base bulb, E12 or E14, and no — bulbs are supplied separately so you can set the brightness and the colour temperature yourself.
Can it be dimmed?
Yes, if you fit a dimmable candle bulb on a dimmer circuit. The fixture has no driver of its own, so the bulb and the switch do the work.
Can I put it in a bathroom?
Not where it can meet water or steam. IP20 offers no moisture protection, so this one belongs in dry indoor rooms.
Will my disc look like the one in the photographs?
The same warm glow, a different pattern. Every disc is cut from natural alabaster, so its veining is its own.
