Description

A textured, pebble-shaped disc stands proud of a slim backplate, throwing its light up and across the wall behind it rather than straight out into the room, so the glow reads as ambient rather than a bare bulb catching your eye.

This wall lamp for a bathroom mirror pair is IP65 rated for steam and splashes, so a shower room or a damp hallway is genuinely fine, in a Black or White finish that sits just as quietly beside a bed.

Installation Guide

Every wall light in this collection mounts to the wall with the hardware included in the box. The steps below cover all three power types we supply - hardwired, plug-in and rechargeable - so read the first section, work out which one you have, then follow the matching path.

Before you start

  • Power type: your light is hardwired, plug-in or rechargeable. The Product Specifications above say which. It changes the whole installation, so check before you open anything.
  • Mounting: all wall lights fix to a flat wall surface. Screws, anchors and the mounting bracket are supplied.
  • Dimming: lights with a standard replaceable bulb can usually be dimmed. Integrated LED models generally cannot. The specification above states which your model is.
  • Indoors or out: only fit a light outside if its IP rating says it is suitable. An indoor-rated fitting will fail quickly in the weather and is unsafe in the wet.
  • Wall type: plasterboard, brick and tile each need their own anchor. The supplied screws suit standard plasterboard; buy the right fixing for anything else.

Tools you may need

  • Screwdriver
  • Voltage tester
  • Wire nuts or terminal connectors (supplied with hardwired models)
  • Drill and a bit suited to your wall, if you are making a new fixing point
  • Spirit level and pencil

If your light is hardwired

1. Switch off the power

Turn the lighting circuit off at your consumer unit or breaker panel. Do not rely on the wall switch. Test the wires at the outlet box with a voltage tester and confirm they are dead before you touch them.

2. Remove the old fitting

If you are replacing an existing light, unscrew it and disconnect the wires by undoing the connectors. Support the fitting as you free it so it does not hang on its wiring.

3. Fit the mounting bracket

Hold the new bracket against the outlet box or your marked position and check it with a level. Fix it with the supplied screws, tightening evenly so the bracket sits flat against the wall.

4. Connect the wiring

  • Live to live: black, brown, or the terminal marked L
  • Neutral to neutral: white, blue, or the terminal marked N
  • Earth to earth: green, green-and-yellow, or bare, to the earth terminal or screw

Twist each pair together and secure it with a connector. Tuck the wiring back into the box so nothing is pinched when the fitting closes onto the bracket.

5. Mount the fitting

Line the body up with the bracket and secure it with the screws provided. It should sit flush to the wall with no gap and no movement.

6. Fit the bulb

If your light takes a replaceable bulb, fit the type and wattage given in the Product Specifications above. Do not exceed the wattage printed on the socket.

7. Restore power and test

Switch the circuit back on and test the light. If it does not come on, isolate the power again before you re-open anything.

If your light is plug-in

Fix the bracket to the wall with the screws and anchors supplied, checking it with a level. Attach the body to the bracket, then run the cable to the nearest socket. Clip or tuck the cable so it is not a trip hazard and is not pulled taut where it leaves the fitting.

If your light is rechargeable

Fix the bracket to the wall, then charge the light fully with the supplied cable before its first use - a first charge from flat takes longer than later ones. Seat the light on its bracket and switch it on. Most models lift off the bracket for recharging without tools.

Important tips

  • Follow the wiring rules that apply where you live. If any part of this is unfamiliar, have a qualified electrician do it - it is a short job for them.
  • Check the outlet box is sound and can carry the weight of the fitting before you mount it.
  • Dust the fitting occasionally with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use solvents or abrasive cleaners on a painted or plated finish.
  • Let a bulb cool before you handle it, and never fit a bulb above the rated wattage.

If anything about the fitting or the wiring is unclear, email info@clerachic.com and a person will answer you.
