Are the two finishes otherwise the same fitting?
Yes. Same shade, same size, same output — the finish is the only thing that changes between them.

Will the glass be in my eyes when I am sitting under it?
The brim covers only the top of the globe; most of the glass is left in view below it. Hang it higher than you would a solid shade.

Is one enough to light a room?
Treat it as light over a surface, not light for a whole room. It picks out what sits beneath it — keep something else running for the general light.
