Cordless Lamp for Console Table, Four-Step Touch, 27.4 cm

A hallway console is the hardest surface in the house to light. There is rarely a socket behind it, and a trailing cable across a hall is worse than no lamp at all.

This one has no cable in use. A metal trumpet stem flares into a flat disc that throws light straight down onto the surface, over a low stepped base with a non-slip underside. Four touch steps take it from a level that just marks the console after dark up to enough to read a letter by. On the lowest setting it runs for days rather than hours, so it can simply live there and be topped up now and again by USB-C.

A flared metal stem, a flat disc head and four touch levels

• Four defined steps: tap the disc to move between them — no holding, no guessing where the level landed
• Light down onto the surface: the disc caps the LED, so what you see is the console rather than the source
• Days on the lowest level: left low as a marker light it runs for an extraordinarily long time — the figures are in the specifications
• Non-slip base: the underside grips, which matters on a polished hall table

Warm rather than white

The LED runs at a low colour temperature, so the pool on a wooden console reads as lamplight rather than as a screen. That is what stops a cordless lamp looking like a gadget.

Metal, and it feels like it

The weight sits in the base and the stem is cool to the hand. It is the difference between a lamp you move and a lamp you knock over.

Not only for the hall

The same lamp does a bedside table, a bathroom shelf or a dinner table. Because there is no cable, moving it is a decision rather than a job.

Available finishes

• Silver: brushed metal, the most neutral
• Gold: warm brass tone, the closest to candlelight
• Black: matt graphite for a darker hallway

Frequently asked questions

How long does a charge last?
From a working evening at full down to several days as a low marker light — both figures are in the specifications.

Can I use it while charging?
Yes. Connect the cable and it stays lit.

Is it steady on a polished surface?
The base is weighted and the underside is non-slip, so it stays where you set it.
