Cranked Arm Floor Lamp for Living Room, Metal Dome, 142 cm

A wide metal dome rides out on a cranked arm, held clear of the pole that carries it. It suits the corner that never gets quite enough light — the reading chair, the side of the bed, the desk under the window. Switch it on and the room settles around it.

A wide dome carried out to one side on a cranked arm

• Deep dome shade — an open-faced metal dome that gathers the light and drops it over whatever sits beneath it.
• Cranked arm — the arm holds the dome clear of the stem, so the light lands on the seat rather than on the base.
• Slender stem — one straight pole runs from the arm down to a low, round disc base.
• Collared joints — a collar finishes the top of the stem, and a second sits at the elbow of the arm.

Metal throughout, from dome to base

Shade, arm, stem and base are all metal. The dome is deep, so its rim sits below the light itself and hides the source from a seated view. It is a plain, architectural shape, quiet enough to stand among older and heavier furniture.

Fit and placement

This is a freestanding lamp. The cord runs from the base to an ordinary wall socket, so there is no wiring and no electrician. Stand it beside a chair, a sofa arm or a desk, with the dome reaching over the seat.

Frequently asked questions

Is the light directed or ambient?
Directed. The dome collects the light and drops it in a pool below. From a seat you see that pool, not the source above it.

Which rooms does it suit?
Living rooms, bedrooms and studies. It sits best in a reading corner, beside a lounge chair, a sofa arm or a low side table.

Which finish suits a warmer room?
The two brass finishes read warm against wood and older furniture. Black sits quietly against most palettes, and chrome suits a cooler, more minimal room.
