Rechargeable Lantern for Balcony, Retro Storm Cage, Dimmable, 25 cm

The shape is a storm lantern: a flared metal cap, a wire cage, a bulb inside it and a handle over the top. What has changed is everything behind the glass.

Instead of a wick there is an LED filament tube that looks the part and behaves better — no flame, no fuel, no soot on the cap. A knurled knob on the cap dims it from a low ember up to something you can eat by, and a full charge runs for days rather than hours. Pick it up by the handle and carry it from the table to the step, or hang it off a branch.

A caged filament tube under a flared metal cap

• Dimmer on the cap: a knurled knob rather than a button, so the level is set by feel in the dark
• Filament look, LED behind it: the tube reads as a warm filament without the heat, the fuel or the flame
• Carry handle: a wire bail over the cap — set it down, hang it up, move it mid-meal
• Days between charges: the runtime at a low setting is long enough that charging becomes a weekly thought — the figure is in the specifications

A table it can live on

It weighs enough not to skate across a garden table and the cage protects the tube from a knocked elbow. That combination is what lets a lantern stay outside for an evening instead of being carried in and out.

Warm or cool

Two tones, so the same lantern does a summer dinner outside and a winter shelf indoors without looking out of place in either.

Keep it out of the rain

It is made for an outdoor table, not for weather. Bring it in overnight and it will last; leave it out in a downpour and it will not.

Available finishes

• Black: matt black cap and cage, the strongest outline after dark
• White: cream cap and cage, softer in daylight

Frequently asked questions

Can it stay out in the rain?
No. It is built for an outdoor table rather than for weather — bring it in overnight.

How long does a charge last?
Up to the figure in the specifications at a low setting, considerably less at full brightness.

Is the bulb replaceable?
No. The filament tube is an integrated LED, so there is nothing to fit and nothing to burn out.
