A plug-in wall sconce with a swivel hinge and an adjustable cord — no electrician, no fixed position. The Ball Wall Sconce brings mid-century modern warmth to any room and lets you redirect the light without ever taking the shade off the wall.

In 1952, a set of Swedish hanging lamps arrived on the American market. George Nelson admired them enough to want one for his office, but their price put them out of reach — so he set out to design his own. The result was a family of lamps built on elemental, spherical shapes: a rounded apple, an elongated cigar, a shapely pear and more.

  • Plug-in, no wiring. A 59″ cord with a standard wall plug and inline switch means you can place it anywhere without an electrician.
  • Swivel hinge. Pivot the shade to redirect light without removing it from the wall — it adjusts with one hand.

Bulb and light source

E26 base — bulb not included. The fixture takes a standard E26 (or E27) base, the most common socket in the US, and works with LED or Edison-style bulbs. We recommend an Edison-style filament bulb (2200–2700K) to complement the mid-century character of the shade. Bulb not included.

Setup notes

  • No wiring required — plug into any standard wall outlet and control the light with the inline on/off switch or pull cord.
  • Mount the wall bracket with the included screws. The shade clips onto the bracket and pivots on the swivel hinge.
  • The 59″ cord can be styled along the wall or left hanging; cord clips are available to keep it tidy.
  • Indoor use only. Not suitable for bathrooms or any damp or wet locations.

Is this plug-in or hardwired?
Plug-in. It comes with a 59-inch cord and a standard wall plug, so no electrician or hardwiring is required — just plug in and go. Control it with the inline on/off switch or the pull cord.

What does the swivel hinge do?
The swivel hinge lets you pivot the shade to redirect light without taking the mount off the wall. It is ideal for bedside reading, task lighting or adjusting the mood on a whim.

Legit Bubble Lamp. I did so much research comparing this to the original design which cost more than twice the price of the lamp sold on this site. Not only is this price amazing, but also the design is identical in terms of the materials and dimensions. This lamp is gorgeous. Even knowing its size, I was awed by how substantial it is in person. Fairly easy to install, works with a dimmable smart bulb. Really elegant and makes a beautiful statement. Love it. Opted for the slower shipping and it arrived just under 6 weeks. Just what I wanted. Was tired of night stand lamps. Wanted something on the wall. These were easy to mount! Though the ground screw either the head or the screw body pokes into wall. So you actually have to drill it a bit so the mount sits flush. Paired with smart led bulbs!
