Turned Wood Ceiling Light, Semi-Flush Glass Dome, E27, 2 Colours

A turned wood canopy carrying one glass dome, ∅28 cm (11″) across and dropping just 21 cm (8.3″) from the ceiling — no cord, no chain, nothing to duck under. It runs on one standard E27 bulb, not included, so you choose the brightness and the warmth. Made for hallways, landings, entryways and low-ceilinged bedrooms.

What makes it work

• Turned wood canopy — a single disc of natural wood with the grain running through it, on a short stem that holds the dome just clear of the ceiling.
• Semi-flush, fixed drop — 21 cm (8.3″) from the ceiling to the base of the glass, so it stays clear of the head height a pendant eats into.
• Diffused, not spotted — the dome is open beneath a flat diffuser disc, so the light falls as a soft pool and washes a clean cone down the nearest wall.
• Standard E27 socket — the common screw fitting, so you set the output and the colour temperature yourself and replace the bulb anywhere.

This is a single-socket fixture at ∅28 cm (11″) — the right weight of light for a hallway, a landing, an entry or a small bedroom, and a second light rather than the only one in a large room. Nothing in the fixture dims, so dimming comes from a dimmable E27 bulb on a compatible wall dimmer.

Installation

• It hardwires to a ceiling point and the base plate covers the outlet box, so the box position is the fixture position — there is no drop to set.
• Fix into a joist or a rated ceiling anchor rather than plasterboard alone, and allow 21 cm (8.3″) of clearance below the ceiling for the dome.
• Make the wiring off first, then fit the wood ring and the glass dome to the base, handling the dome by its rim rather than the diffuser disc.

Have an electrician make the connection if you'd rather not touch the wiring, or fit it yourself if you're comfortable with basic ceiling wiring — it's a straightforward job.
