A long metal bar that sits close to the ceiling and lights a whole room evenly, without the visual weight of a fitting that hangs. If your ceiling is low, or you simply want the light to be felt rather than looked at, this is the shape that solves it.

The difference shows in how a room reads once it is on. A single point of light leaves corners dim and shadows long; a bar spreads the same brightness across the length of the space, so a dining table, a kitchen run or an open living area is lit end to end with nothing falling away at the edges. The line it draws overhead is clean and architectural, closer to a detail in the ceiling than an object beneath it, and because the fitting stays tight to the plaster there is nothing to duck under and nothing to break the sightline across a room.

The body is aluminium, sturdy and built to a high standard, with an acrylic diffuser running its full length, so the diodes never show as points and what reaches you is an even sheet of light rather than a row of bright spots. Three finishes: black for contrast against a pale ceiling, white to disappear into one, and gold when you want the fitting to register as a piece of jewellery for the room. Minimal, warm and quietly lively, it sits as comfortably in a pared-back modern flat as it does in a room with older bones. Sizes can be mixed too, and that is where it becomes genuinely interesting: run one long bar over a table and a shorter one over the counter, or stack two lengths in parallel above a wide room, and you have composed the lighting rather than simply installed it.

Six lengths are available: 60 cm (23.6″) at 1.1 kg (2.4 lb), 80 cm (31.5″) at 1.3 kg (2.8 lb), 100 cm (39.4″) at 1.6 kg (3.5 lb), 120 cm (47.2″) at 2.0 kg (4.4 lb), 150 cm (59.1″) at 2.6 kg (5.7 lb) and 200 cm (78.7″) at 3.1 kg (6.8 lb). As a floodlight the output climbs with the length, 24 W at 60 cm, 32 W at 80 cm, 40 W at 100 cm, 48 W at 120 cm, 60 W at 150 cm and 80 W at 200 cm, the longest reaching 8800 lm. At 120 cm you can also choose a spotlight, an interrupted spotlight or a combined floodlight and spotlight build, each drawing 36 W for 3960 lm, which lets you keep the broad wash and add punch exactly where a table or a worktop needs it.

The LED is integrated and energy-saving, rated for 50,000 hours of use, and you choose the tone at the outset: warm white at 3000K, neutral white at 4000K or cool white at 6000K. The dimmable build adds a remote that steps between the three whites, raises and lowers the level, and switches the fitting on and off without a wall plate. It runs on AC 90-260 V and is hardwired. Fix it flat to the ceiling, or use the included brackets to carry it up a wall instead; sloped ceilings are fine. Certification covers UL, CCC, CE, CQC, EMC, FCC, GS, LVD, PSE, RoHS, SAA and VDE. Installationsvejledning

A flush ceiling light sits close against the ceiling and wires directly into a ceiling outlet box, which makes it a good choice where headroom is tight - hallways, landings, bedrooms and cupboards. The whole job is usually under half an hour once the power is off.

Before you start

  • Mounting: the base fixes to a standard ceiling outlet box and sits flat to the ceiling.
  • Ceiling type: flush fittings are for flat ceilings. On a vaulted or sloped ceiling, a semi-flush or pendant fitting hangs correctly where a flush one will not.
  • Power: these fittings are hardwired to your mains supply.
  • Dimming: models with a replaceable bulb can usually be dimmed. Integrated LED models generally cannot. The Product Specifications above state which yours is.
  • Clearance: check the canopy width and fitting depth listed above against the space you have, particularly inside a cupboard or close to a door swing.

Tools you may need

  • Wire nuts or terminal connectors (supplied)
  • Step ladder
  • Drill, if you are fitting a new outlet box

Installation

Turn the lighting circuit off at the consumer unit or breaker panel and test at the ceiling outlet with a voltage tester. The wall switch alone does not make the wiring safe.

Most flush fittings have an outer shade or diffuser that twists or unclips from the base. Take it off and set it somewhere it cannot be stood on, exposing the mounting plate and the wiring compartment.

Screw the supplied bracket to the ceiling outlet box. Check it is square to the room before you tighten - with a flush fitting, any twist in the bracket shows immediately against the ceiling line.

  • Live to live: black, brown, or the terminal marked L
  • Neutral to neutral: white, blue, or the terminal marked N
  • Earth to earth: green, green-and-yellow, or bare, to the earth terminal or screw

Secure each connection and fold the wiring back into the box. There is little depth behind a flush fitting, so make sure nothing is trapped as the base comes up.

Offer the base up to the bracket and secure it with the screws provided, tightening a little at a time in turn so the base draws up evenly and finishes flat against the ceiling.

Put the diffuser or decorative cover back, twisting, clipping or screwing it as the design requires. It should seat without force - if it resists, the base is probably not fully home.

Switch the circuit back on and test from the wall switch. Isolate the power again before re-opening anything.

Important tips

  • Confirm the outlet box is secure and rated to carry the fitting's weight before mounting.
  • Follow the wiring rules that apply where you live, and call a qualified electrician if anything is unclear.
  • Clean the diffuser with a dry, soft cloth. Let it dry completely before refitting if you wash it.
  • Fit only the bulb type and wattage listed above - a flush fitting traps heat more than an open one.

The packing arrived well and safely. The product also looks pretty good. But the Japanese Bolt is 100V. It was not the kind of thing that would be bought by a beginner who didn't know at all about electricity so much that anyone could easily install it and end up shopping. When it arrived with two wires exposed, it was exposed. From the meaning of the number from AC110 to 220V, it will arrive and look up. Two cases were refused to go to major consumer electronics retailers in Japan with images of wiring to consult. Different countries have different wiring colors. The color of the wiring reached my house was brown-blue. They seem to have no choice but to consult and install an electronics store that handles lamps made overseas. It could be lit even in 100V.
