A faceted crystal drop hung from a chrome-and-gold collar, so the light breaks up as it falls rather than arriving in one flat wash. Switch it on and the crystal does the work: the glow scatters across the facets, throws small points of light onto the surfaces below, and turns an ordinary corner into something worth looking at. The teardrop shape reads as jewellery for the ceiling, and the illumination it gives back is soft and inviting rather than glaring.

Each drop is crystal on an iron body, with the exterior chrome-plated in gold and finished in a paint that is non-toxic, hard-wearing, resistant to heat and slow to fade. The silhouette is deliberately spare — a slim cylinder tapering into the faceted crystal — which is how it manages to feel both classic and unfussy at once, at home above a dining table, beside a bed, over a kitchen island or in a living room that leans modern. Every drop measures ∅6 cm (2.4″) and hangs 30 cm (11.8″) long.

Order it as a single pendant at 5 W and 550 lm, as a pair at 10 W and 1100 lm, or as a cluster: three drops in a round arrangement or a straight line at 15 W and 1650 lm, or five drops round or linear at 25 W and 2750 lm. The canopy follows your choice — ∅10 cm (3.9″), ∅20 cm (7.9″) or ∅30 cm (11.8″) for the round versions, and 40 cm (15.7″) by 12 cm (4.7″) or 75 cm (29.5″) by 12 cm (4.7″) for the linear ones, which is what lets a row of five sit properly along the length of a table. Finished weight runs from 2.1 kg to 5.6 kg depending on the configuration.

Choose warm white at 3000 K for a gentler, more relaxed room, or cool white at 6000 K when you want the crystal to sparkle harder. The LED is built in and rated for 50,000 hours, and it runs on AC 90–260 V so the light stays even and bright wherever you are. It hardwires to a ceiling or any suitable surface, and the brackets for a wall installation come in the box. Up to 1.5 m (4.9 ft) of adjustable cord means you can set each drop at the exact height you want, staggering them for a cluster or levelling them for a straight run over a table. Sloped ceilings are fine.

This fitting hangs from a ceiling outlet box and is wired into your mains supply. Work out your hanging height before you connect anything - it is far easier to set the drop with the wiring still loose than to redo it afterwards.

Before you start

• Mounting: the fitting secures to a standard ceiling outlet box. The bracket and fixings are in the box.
• Weight: check that your outlet box and ceiling can carry the fitting. Weights are listed in the Product Specifications above. A heavy chandelier may need a brace fitted between the joists.
• Hanging height: the supplied cord, chain or rod can be shortened. Over a dining table, a drop that leaves roughly 75 to 90 cm between the table top and the bottom of the shade suits most rooms.
• Ceiling type: every model suits a flat ceiling. Sloped-ceiling compatibility is stated per product in the Product Specifications above.
• Power: these fittings are hardwired. They do not plug into a socket.
• Dimming: models with a replaceable bulb can usually be dimmed with a compatible dimmer. Integrated LED models generally cannot.

Tools you may need

• Drill, if you are fitting a new outlet box or bracing the ceiling

Installation

Turn the lighting circuit off at the consumer unit or breaker panel - the wall switch is not enough. Test at the ceiling outlet with a voltage tester and confirm the wires are dead.

Screw the supplied bracket to the ceiling outlet box with the screws provided. Tighten evenly and check that it sits flat and square; a bracket that is not level will show in the finished hang.

Adjust the cord, chain or rod to the drop you want before you make any electrical connection. Lock the length using the canopy adjuster or the grip inside the canopy. Where a cord is shortened, coil the surplus neatly inside the canopy rather than cutting it - that keeps the height adjustable later.

• Live to live: black, brown, or the terminal marked L
• Neutral to neutral: white, blue, or the terminal marked N
• Earth to earth: green, green-and-yellow, or bare, to the earth terminal or screw

Secure each connection with a connector and press the wiring gently up into the box. Nothing should be trapped between the canopy and the ceiling when you close it.

Lift the canopy or backplate onto the bracket and fasten it with the screws or decorative caps supplied. Work up to a firm fit rather than forcing it - decorative caps and plated threads strip easily.

Fit the bulb type and wattage listed in the Product Specifications above. Where several sockets share one shade, use identical bulbs so the colour and brightness match across the fitting.

Switch the circuit back on and test the light, including the dimmer if you have fitted one. Isolate the power again before re-opening anything.

Important tips

• Follow the wiring rules that apply where you live, and use a qualified electrician for high ceilings, sloped mounts or anything you are unsure of.
• Have someone hold a wide or heavy fitting while you make the connections. Do not let it hang on its wiring at any point.
• Clean glass and crystal with a dry, soft cloth. Do not spray cleaner onto a fitting that is wired in.
• Do not over-tighten decorative parts: they are finished, not structural.
